Chandigarh, August 24, 2021: To commemorate 75 years of India’s independence, St. John's High School decided to create an Eco-Walk way within its premises, with 75 indigenous trees, both fruiting and flowering. The saplings were generously gifted to the school by the Department of Forests, Chandigarh. It was an honour to have Mr Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, Dr Abdul Qayum, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Mr Pramod Sharma, Founder President of Yuvsatta, inaugurate the Eco-walkway on the 24th of August.

Principal, Mrs Kavita Das, who has always been a motivation and force behind such initiatives, led the dignitaries to the plantation site where they planted a sapling each. The delight of planting the rest of the saplings was given to the students of the senior wing.

Principal, Mrs Kavita Das expressed her concern over the climatic changes happening all over the globe and her pleasure at being able to contribute a little bit to this green endeavour. The beautiful school campus is already a home to many birds, especially the state bird, the Indian Grey Hornbill. This initiative is a step towards building biodiversity within the school campus where children can emotionally connect to the environment and understand that each species, no matter how small, has an important role to play.
