DC Sachin Gupta Inaugurates First Mixed Team Table Tennis League, Inspires Young Athletes

Rohtak, January 4, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta addressed players, officials, coaches, and sports enthusiasts after inaugurating the two-day First Mixed Team Table Tennis League 2026 at Government Women’s College, Rohtak.
Highlighting the administration’s focus on nurturing talent from junior and grassroots levels, he said that structured competitions and sustained encouragement are essential to building a vibrant and inclusive sports culture in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner interacted with players on the courts and encouraged them to compete with discipline, dedication, and the true spirit of sportsmanship. He emphasized that district-level leagues provide young athletes with competitive exposure, confidence, and learning opportunities that form the foundation for future excellence.
DC Sachin Gupta noted that the sports industry is a significant contributor to economic development, entertainment, and social engagement. Growing fan participation, live broadcasting, and expanding media presence have made sports an increasingly attractive sector for investment. He called upon institutions, private stakeholders, and investors to actively support sports development initiatives.
He further said that Haryana’s progressive sports policy has played a key role in making the state one of the country’s leading sports destinations. Facilities such as cash incentives, government employment, sports nurseries, scholarships, and improved infrastructure have enabled talent from both rural and urban areas to flourish, ensuring balanced growth of sports and education.
The Deputy Commissioner announced that, building on the success of the table tennis league, similar structured programs will be launched across all major sports disciplines in the district to strengthen grassroots participation. He informed that, as part of this broader vision, the district administration is planning to launch Khelo Rohtak from 23 January, which will provide a common platform for young athletes across sports to showcase their talent and gain competitive exposure.
District Table Tennis Coach and event organiser Bhavana Saini informed that sixteen teams are participating in the championship. Group league matches were played on the first day, with Friends Table Tennis Club, Shri Ram Sena, Six Degree Table Tennis Club, and Team Gladiators securing places in the quarterfinals. The tournament aims to provide quality competition to local players, with a cash prize of ₹21,000 for the winning team.
Appreciating the collective efforts of coaches, educational institutions, sports associations, officials, volunteers, and supporting organisations, the Deputy Commissioner said that the creation of a sustainable sports culture requires coordinated efforts from all stakeholders.
The event was attended by Ravi Guganani, Advisor to the Sports Minister Sandeep Parashar, DD Sports Sunita Khatri, DSO Pradeep, GWC Principal Dr. Shamsher Singh Hooda, Treasurer of the Haryana Table Tennis Association Vikas Saini, Basant, and other dignitaries.
