Rohtak, December 10, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta reviewed the status of water drainage from agricultural and non-agricultural land across the district and directed that all remaining waterlogged patches must be fully de-watered by 15 December. He highlighted that the coordinated efforts of the Revenue Department, Panchayat Department, Irrigation Department and UHBVN have significantly accelerated drainage work in recent weeks, helping farmers proceed with timely wheat sowing for the Rabi season.
Chairing a meeting at the Mini Secretariat with officials of the Irrigation Department and UHBVN, the Deputy Commissioner instructed that field teams must work at double speed in the few remaining pockets, ensuring complete clearance of water before the deadline.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates to visit the affected villages within the next two days, review on-ground conditions with concerned departments, and deploy additional pumps, manpower or machinery wherever required.
He also instructed UHBVN to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the affected villages so that de-watering operations continue smoothly.
SE (Irrigation) Balraj said that the district recorded over 170% above normal rainfall during the 2025–26 monsoon season. This unusually high rainfall led to waterlogging across a large number of villages, with Meham and Kalanaur subdivisions among the worst affected. Villages such as Samain, Behlba, Bhaini Surjan, Bhaini Bhairon, Farmana, Nigana and Jindran witnessed extensive impact. He explained that although most areas have now been fully de-watered, the absence of permanent drainage outlets in a few locations caused delays. To tackle this challenge, temporary reverse-flow channels were created by excavating earthen drains, enabling successful drainage.
Updating the current situation, the Irrigation Department informed that only a small portion of land in Meham and Kalanaur remains waterlogged, including some non-agricultural pockets. With intensified and coordinated efforts underway, the department is confident that all remaining patches will be fully drained by 15 December, ensuring land is ready for sowing wherever required.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed that no effort should be spared in achieving this target so that farmers can resume agricultural activities without further delay.
DC Sachin Gupta also instructed the Irrigation Department to work jointly with the Municipal Corporation on the proposed RCC trough for the Kheri–Sadh Link Drain, ensuring speedy action so that the district develops a more robust and permanent drainage system for the future.
The meeting was attended by UHBVN Superintending Engineer Bijender Narwal, Irrigation Department SE Balraj, Executive Engineers Rajesh Bhardwaj, Rajiv Rathi, Arun Munjal, SDO Sujit, UHBVN Executive Engineer Seema Nara, and other concerned officials.
