DC reviews GAIL India’s natural gas network, expansion and safety measures in Ludhiana
Himanshu Jain urges people to mandatorily call toll-free number 15101 before initiating any excavation activity to prevent untoward incidents
Ludhiana, May 19, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Tuesday chaired an key meeting with officials of GAIL (India) Limited to review the progress of natural gas infrastructure development, expansion services, industrial supply, and public safety measures in the district.
During the meeting at GAIL Office, the General Manager Surinder Pal, alongside other senior officials welcomed the Deputy Commissioner and gave a detailed presentation regarding the existing network of natural gas pipelines in the district. The officials informed that GAIL has been continuously working towards strengthening and expanding the PNG network to provide clean, safe, and environment-friendly fuel to households, commercial establishments, and industries across various parts of the district.
The GAIL team highlighted the ongoing and proposed expansion projects aimed at increasing PNG connectivity in urban as well as rural areas. They also apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the supply of natural gas to industrial units, which is playing a significant role in promoting cleaner industrial operations and reducing pollution levels in the region. Special emphasis was laid on the safety and security mechanisms adopted for the maintenance and monitoring of underground gas pipelines. Officials informed that advanced monitoring systems and regular inspections are being carried out to ensure uninterrupted and safe supply of natural gas to consumers.
Reviewing the arrangements, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain stressed the importance of public awareness regarding the safety of underground gas pipelines. He appealed to residents, contractors, builders, and various agencies to remain cautious while carrying out any excavation or digging work.
The Deputy Commissioner urged people to mandatorily call the national toll-free number 15101 before initiating any excavation activity so that the presence of underground gas pipelines can be identified in advance and any untoward incident, gas leakage, or damage to infrastructure can be prevented. He said that public cooperation is essential to ensure the safety of citizens as well as critical infrastructure. He further directed concerned departments including NHAI, PWD, MCs, Irrigation, Sewerage, water supply to coordinate closely with GAIL officials for smooth implementation of pipeline expansion projects and timely resolution of any operational issues.
Himanshu Jain also appreciated the GAIL team for their operational excellence and stressed the critical importance of safeguarding energy infrastructure. The Deputy Commissioner also assured fulsome support to them.
