Ludhiana, July 10, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik on Monday took stock of the flood situation in several villages of the district. 

After visiting Bholewal, Nurpur Bet, Walipur, Khehra Bet, Maanda villages, Surabhi Malik said that due to the flow of water of rivulets Siswan, the water level in river Satluj had been enhanced , which could pose danger to low lying areas along the river in the district. 

The Deputy Commissioner said that with the excessive release of water from Bhakra Dam, safe evacuation of people and cattle from low lying areas was necessary. She said the district administration was keeping a close watch on the entire situation adding that they were already fully geared up to face any unforeseen eventuality arising out of the prevailing circumstances.

She said that the teams of administration had safely rescued 40 residents of Rajjpura and Khehra Bet and were shifted to a temporary shelter in SFRI building where the facilities of food, water, electricity, bedding, toilets and others ensured. She also gave directions to the officials to plug all the breaches and strengthen the vulnerable points as sufficient arrangements of 10000 sand bags were made and more. 

The Deputy Commissioner said that the health department had already been asked to keep its health teams ready adding that Powercom has been instructed to gear up for supplying power in proposed relief centres, if the need arises. Similarly, Malik added that divers have also been put on alert so that they could be roped in if needed adding that no stone would be left unturned for extending a helping hand to people in case of any problem.

However, the Deputy Commissioner appealed the people that there was no need to panic as the district administration was fully at their disposal. She said that the district administration was duty-bound to extend a helping hand to these people, in case of any sort of emergency. Malik said that she along with top brass of the district administration were keeping a regular tab on the situation. 


Malik also interacted with the residents of these villages and assured wholeheartedly support to them in these hours of distress.
