Ludhiana, April 15, 2026: In a significant step toward the rehabilitation and empowerment of juveniles, a dual-initiative event featuring a culinary tasting session and the official launch of a specialized Electrician Course was held today at the Observation Home, Social Welfare Complex, Shimlapuri. The event was conducted under the visionary guidance of Himanshu Jain, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The initiatives represent a collaborative effort between the Philanthropy Club (led by Lakhminder Kaur Chhabra), and the Sun Foundation (led by Shubhangi Singh), supported by a CSR initiative by Vimmi Bajaj from Bajajsons Ltd.
Led by Veenu Rai Dhanda under the ‘Cook n Style’ cooking classes, showcased a tasting event where guests sampled dishes prepared by the residents, showing their progress in professional food preparation and presentation. They were also given certificates at the end of the session. Launched in collaboration with the Sun Foundation, the electricity course aims to provide technical certification where students will learn essential electrical maintenance and repair.
These vocational programs are specifically designed to transform the time spent at the Observation Home into a period of productive growth. By mastering technical trades like electrical work and culinary arts, juveniles gain the tools necessary to secure stable employment or pursue entrepreneurship upon their reintegration into society. This financial independence is a critical factor in reducing recidivism and fostering a sense of dignity and purpose.
Furthermore, members of the Philanthropy Club - Anu Gupta and Simrat Kathuria were present and the lessons were taught by Sukhmandeep Singh. Chief Governance Officer, Ambar Bandopadhyay and Governance Fellow, Navpreet Sidhu were also a part of this initiative. The officials emphasized that such partnerships between the government and social organizations are vital for creating a robust support system for youth in the social welfare circuit.
