DC Ludhiana inaugurates edition of prestigious SARAS Mela at Punjab Agriculture University 

Ludhian, October 27, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Surabhi Malik today inaugurated third edition of prestigious SARAS Mela here in the premises of Punjab Agriculture University. 

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rupinder Pal Singh and Assistant Mela Officer Navneet Joshi said that people of Ludhiana really enthusiastic about this event which will be held between October 27 and November 5, 2023. Artisans from across 23 states will demonstrate their skills during the event, she said adding that people will also get to witness the taste of cuisines of different states. 

She further stated that a total of 356 stalls would be set up here during the event including food stalls, and artisan stalls, among others. An entry fee of Rs. 10 has been fixed for the general public to visit this mela, she said, adding that proper security arrangements have also been put in place with the installation of over 300 CCTV cameras in the entire premises. She also mentioned that the proper arrangement for free-of-cost food, accommodation, and stalls has been ensured for these participants.  

The DC also said that children below age of five years of age have been exempted from entry ticket and students of government schools can visit the mela free of cost. 

The administration has also roped in famous singers including Satinder Sartaj, Ranjeet Bawa, Gurnam Bhullar, Sukhwinder Sukhi, Amar Sehmbi, Hunar Sidhu, Zorawar Wadali, Nitin and others who would entertain visitors with their performance.

This prominent event is once again being held in Ludhiana which is a matter of pride for the entire district, he said, adding that it is the third time the Ludhiana district is hosting this event as it is generally held at major cities of the country. Earlier, this event was held in 2012 and 2017, now it is the third time the people of Ludhiana will witness this mega event. He reiterated that the administration would leave no stone unturned to make this event a mega success in the district.
