Ludhiana, September 25, 2025: National BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan said that the Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana, Himanshu Jain, has miserably failed the people of Punjab and Ludhiana district. Grewal said that when the people of Village Sasarali were begging and pleading with the administration from Day One to call in the Army, Himanshu Jain shamelessly sat silent, turned a blind eye, and ignored their cries. He said that now, after catastrophic destruction has already taken place, the DC is trying to act like a “saint” now the Army has been called in.

Grewal told that this entire catastrophic loss is not accidental it is the direct result of illegal mining which flourished openly under the umbrella and protection of Himanshu Jain’s administration. It is his failure, his negligence and his complicity that destroyed the natural flow of the Sutlej River and has now unleashed devastation on the farmers of Sasarali.

He said that when the situation has completely gone out of control, when the Sutlej River has already changed its course, when farmers’ fertile lands are being eaten alive day after day, when standing crops worth lakhs have been reduced to nothing, and when 38 acres of agricultural land has already been swallowed by the river, then and only then did Himanshu Jain suddenly wake up to send a meaningless paper letter to Army Engineers. Grewal said this is not administration, this is cowardice, betrayal and criminal negligence.

Grewal told that Himanshu Jain is directly answerable to the farmers whose entire livelihood is being destroyed. He is answerable for the shameless criminal nexus of illegal mining that flourished under his chair. He is answerable for looking the other way while the Sutlej consumed the wealth of Punjab’s farmers. Grewal warned that Himanshu Jain cannot and must not be allowed to wash his hands of responsibility by pretending to “seek Army help” after the damage is done.

He said bluntly that Himanshu Jain has failed Ludhiana, he has failed Punjab and most importantly he has failed the very people who trusted him. Farmers don’t need his crocodile tears. They need justice, accountability and immediate action.

Grewal demanded that the Government of Punjab and the Government of India immediately intervene, act without delay and hold Himanshu Jain accountable for this shameful betrayal of duty. He said that farmers will not forgive or forget such a colossal failure and this criminal negligence must face strictest action.
