Ferozepur, October 23, 2019: DC Ferozepur Chander Gaind today launched the “Smart Farmer Scheme” to encourage the farmers who have shunned the stubble burning and honored them as “Smart Farmers”.
Six farmers from Mamdot, Zira, Guruharsahai ares (one from each development block) were felicitated by the DC as recognition of their service to the environment. DC Gaind said that the scheme is aimed to protect the environment by curbing stubble burning practice in the district.
Kuldip Singh, a “smart farmer” from Zira Block said that he is having land measuring 38 Acre and he has not been burning stubble for four years with the help of the agriculture department.
“Earlier I used to spend Rs. 1.50 lakh only on pesticides and now I am spending only Rs. 88,000/-. Now non-burning of stubble has turned into huge benefit for me besides the fertility of land has also increased”, said Kuldeep Singh.
Other farmers including Sarabjit Singh of Village Padri, Sohan Lal of Guruharsahai, Gursewak Singh of Mamdot block and Davinder Singh Sekhon from village Hukumat Singh Wala also shared their experiences with the practice of non-burning of stubble and the results achieved through it in farming. These farmers lauded the efforts of the agriculture department to help them in giving up burning practices and providing them technical assistant with the latest technology.
Farmer Kuldeep Singh told the deputy commissioner that he is also operating a youtube channel “Meri Kheti Mera Kissan” to aware other farmers about ill-effects of stubble burning, adding that over 2.36 Lakh farmers are in touch with him through this channel.
DC Gaind also exhorted all the farmers to come forward and aware other fellow farmers in their respective areas about not burning the stubble. He also directed Chief Agriculture Officer Gurmail Singh to invite these progressive farmers in the Kissan Melas as special speakers.
