Ludhiana, July 9, 2026: In a major step towards making Ludhiana roads safer, Deputy Commissioner Mr Himanshu Jain IAS, today launched the E-Rickshaw Road Safety Awareness and Enforcement Programme at a function held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, here. He wad also accompanied by RTO Mr Mankanwal Singh Chahal.
The initiative aims to streamline the operation of e-rickshaws while ensuring strict compliance with traffic rules across the Ludhiana district.
Addressing the e-rickshaw drivers, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain highlighted that e-rickshaws have revolutionized last-mile connectivity by providing an affordable, accessible, and eco-friendly green transport option. While acknowledging their role in reducing urban pollution and supporting local livelihoods, he emphasized that public safety remains the top priority. He made it clear that eco-friendly mobility cannot come at the cost of human lives, warning that the administration will maintain zero tolerance for traffic violations moving forward.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed directly to e-rickshaw drivers, calling them the backbone of the local transport system. He urged them to look at road safety not as a legal burden, but as a shield protecting their own lives and their family's income. Drivers were strictly instructed to stop driving on the wrong side of the road and to avoid jumping red lights. Furthermore, they must ensure their vehicles are fit for the road with functioning indicators, headlights, and reflective stickers to prevent night-time accidents.
The administration also called upon the general public to cooperate in this safety drive. Commuters have been advised not to board overcrowded e-rickshaws and to immediately report dangerous driving to the traffic helpline. The initiative aims to transform Ludhiana into a model district for orderly, sustainable, and accident-free transportation.
