DC flags off awareness vans to sensitise farmers against stubble burning

Ludhiana, Sep 24, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Wednesday flagged off awareness vans from the district administrative complex to spread awareness against stubble burning.
The DC said these ultra-modern vehicles will be instrumental in awakening the farmers about the need for paddy straw management. He added that paddy stubble is useful for the farmers and should not be burnt as crop residue can play an important role in enhancing the fertility of the soil if harvested in the field with the help of ultra-modern equipment. He said the burning of stubble poses a danger to the environment and must be avoided at every cost.
Jain also asked the agriculture department, PPCB, department of co-operative societies, rural development and panchayats, education, and others to intensify awareness activities in villages through public meetings, seminars, public announcements, etc.
The Deputy Commissioner noted that the Punjab government has been proactive in supporting farmers with advanced machinery for stubble management. "Till last year, over 9,052 ultra-modern machines were provided, and this year, an additional 500 machines have been provided to Ludhiana farmers on subsidy, he added. These include balers, rakes, super seeders, smart seeders, surface seeders, zero drills, RMB ploughs, mulchers, straw choppers, super SMS, crop reapers, rotary slashers, and tractors. The equipment is accessible through custom hiring centers, cooperative societies, and farmer groups, ensuring widespread availability.
Jain reiterated the importance of collective action to curb stubble burning and encouraged farmers to leverage these resources to adopt such agricultural practices, safeguarding both the environment and soil health for future generations.
