DC exhorts youth to exercise right to franchise to fulfill aspirations of martyrs 

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy  Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Saturday called upon the youth to cast their votes to fulfill the aspirations of martyrs Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on the voting day, June 1.

Ludhiana , March 23, 2024: District Election Officer-cum-Deputy  Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Saturday called upon the youth to cast their votes to fulfill the aspirations of martyrs Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on the voting day, June 1.

After paying floral tributes to  Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on their martyrdom day at Jagraon Bridge, Sawhney said that indians got the right to vote due to the relentless struggle by great freedom fighters of the country. She said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev laid down their lives for their motherland for the sake of the country. 

Sawhney said that the hard earned right of vote must not be wasted and youngsters must exercise it judiciously to strengthen democracy at the grass root level. She said that as India was a youthful nation with a sizeable chunk of its population above the age of 18 years, it was need of the hour to ensure that every youth registers himself as voter and cast it sincerely on June 1.

The District Election Officer said that India could progress only if the youth come forward and participate in democratic process wholeheartedly. She said that the participation of young voters in the country was necessary to give new shapes and ideas to strengthen democracy at the grass root level. She said that those youngsters who were eligible but have not enrolled them as voters could apply for the vote. 

Sawhney said that the youth could also register them as voters through a single click on their computer or mobile, way back from their home. She said to facilitate the youth, the Election Commission of India has launched National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) and Voter Helpline App). She said that the youth have to click the link www.nvsp.in for getting them registered as new voters.  She said that the youth could also download Voter Helpline App from Google Play store in their android phone for enrolling them as voters.
