Ludhiana, May 13, 2026: To curb mosquito breeding and prevent the spread of dengue in the district, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Wednesday directed officials of the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Councils, Health Department and other concerned departments to start issuing challans to those found allowing dengue-causing mosquito larvae to breed on their premises.
Chairing a review meeting with officials from various departments, the Deputy Commissioner stated the administration was committed to making all-out efforts to control dengue in both urban and rural areas. He instructed the Municipal Corporation and anti-larvae teams of the Health Department to intensify checking drives and issue challans wherever larvae are detected.
“There should be no leniency towards violators,” Jain said, while directing officials to take strict action against those found negligent. He also asked teams to conduct door-to-door surveys and inspect locations vulnerable to mosquito breeding.
Along with enforcement measures, officials were directed to educate residents about checking and eliminating possible mosquito breeding grounds such as flower pots, jars, tins, bottles, refrigerators, coolers, tyres, water containers and bird feeders. Residents were advised to inspect and dry these places at least once a week.
The Deputy Commissioner further instructed officials to inspect government offices to ensure that no premises become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. He also directed all heads of government departments to observe every Friday as “Dry Day” to prevent larvae breeding.
Seeking public cooperation, Jain urged citizens to take preventive measures at their homes to help contain dengue. He reiterated that the district administration was fully committed to tackling the menace and ensuring the health and safety of residents through awareness and strict enforcement.
Among those present at the meeting were Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Vivek Kataria, Employment Generation & Skill Development Training Officer (EGSDTO) Jeevandeep Singh and other officials.
