Daylight crimes reflect deteriorating law and order in Punjab: Kewal Singh Dhillon
Firing at Ludhiana pizza outlet, brutal assault in Talwandi Sabo raise questions over government’s functioning
Chandigarh, August 19, 2026: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the spate of criminal incidents in the state, saying that incidents of firing, murder, robbery and assault in broad daylight were a clear indication of the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Punjab.
Dhillon said the daylight firing at a pizza outlet in Ludhiana and the brutal assault on a man with an iron rod in Talwandi Sabo, in which his legs were reportedly fractured, had created a sense of fear and insecurity among people. A day earlier, incidents including the killing of a kabaddi player in Mansa, the murder of a youth in Ludhiana and the robbery of an iron trader in Jalandhar had also been reported.
He said gangsterism and extortion continued to remain a serious concern in Punjab. The apparent lack of fear of the law among criminals reflected the government’s failure to maintain law and order, he said.
“When ordinary people, traders, youngsters and sportspersons do not feel safe, it raises serious questions over the government’s handling of law and order,” Dhillon said.
The BJP state president said people across Punjab no longer felt secure. The government’s claims of having curbed crime and gangsterism were proving hollow in the face of the ground reality, he said.
“Instead of making statements, the government must take firm and effective action against criminals,” Dhillon said.
He said the people of Punjab were now looking towards the Bharatiya Janata Party for a change. The BJP was committed to restoring peace, security and the rule of law in the state, he said.
Dhillon said there was a need for strict action against criminals and gangsters without any political interference to restore Punjab’s image as a peaceful state.
“The people of Punjab want to live in a state free from fear, where they feel secure and the rule of law prevails. The BJP stands firmly with the people and will continue to raise their voice,” he said.
