DAV University Highlights Mental Health, Legal Awareness, and Disaster Preparedness on Day 3 of Deeksharambh 2025

Jalandhar, August 6, 2025: Day 3 of Deeksharambh 2025, the student induction programme at DAV University, Jalandhar, focused on empowering students with tools to nurture their mental well-being, understand their legal rights, and respond to emergencies effectively.
The day commenced with a deeply insightful session on Mental Health and Wellness by Dr. Shabnam Priyadarshini, Advisor and Head, Capability Development, SAGE Sustainability. She guided students through the significance of emotional well-being, explaining concepts like stress, burnout, and coping mechanisms. Her talk emphasized that emotional strength comes from awareness and timely support, with impactful takeaways like “It’s okay to not be okay” and “Seeking help is a strength, not a weakness.”
Following this, Nimrata Gill, Advocate, District Courts, Jalandhar, addressed the gathering as part of the campaign "Kadam Badhao, Ragging Hatao". She spoke about the legal framework around ragging, highlighted DAV University’s strict anti-ragging policies, and provided students with actionable resources and helpline numbers. Her address aimed at empowering students to speak up and ensure a safe, inclusive campus environment.
The third session of the day featured Dr. Ranjodh Singh, who conducted a highly informative session on Disaster Management. From natural disasters to man-made emergencies, his session offered students practical knowledge on preparedness, risk assessment, and survival strategies. His real-world insights captured the attention of the audience, emphasizing the importance of readiness in times of crisis.
In the afternoon, Dr. Sapna Sethi, Director, IQAC, led an engaging session on Outcome-Based Education (OBE), helping students grasp the importance of setting measurable learning outcomes. Helping students build stronger mental health and improve sleep hygiene, Dr. Pratima Sharma conducted a reflective and engaging session. She shared practical techniques to enhance sleep quality and explained how mental wellness and sleep are intricately connected. Her session addressed both short-term and long-term strategies to cope with stress, including physical activity, self-care, and mindfulness.
Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, DAV University, Jalandhar, remarked that the day’s focus on mental health, legal literacy, and crisis preparedness reflects the university’s commitment to nurturing not just academically competent but also emotionally resilient individuals. “We aim to develop citizens who are capable of handling life’s challenges with confidence, sensitivity, and civic responsibility,” he added.
Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Arora, Registrar, DAV University, expressed that today’s sessions successfully combined critical life skills with institutional values, helping students become more self-aware, responsible, and future-ready.
The Dean Students’ Welfare, Dr. Kamaljeet Kaur Sidhu, encouraged students to embrace university life with curiosity, discipline, and active participation. She emphasized mental well-being and preparedness, highlighted various opportunities through clubs and committees, and assured continuous support from the department. She also reinforced the university’s strict anti-ragging policy, urging students to help maintain a safe and respectful campus environment.
