CUPB organised inaugural ceremony of two-week FDP on ‘Pedagogy and Assessment in Higher Education: NEP2020’

Bathinda, January 6: Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organized inaugural ceremony of a two-week Faculty Development Programme (online) on ‘Pedagogy and Assessment in Higher Education: NEP2020’ on Wednesday. The University's School of Education is organizing this programme under the PMMMNMTT Self-Sustainability Plan from January 5th to 18th January, 2022.  The Chief Guest and keynote speaker of the inaugural session was Prof. Ajmer Singh Malik, Vice Chancellor, Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa Haryana. More than 60 young faculty from different educational institutions/universities across India are participating in this programme.
In his keynote address, Prof. Ajmer Singh Malik emphasized that the curricular and pedagogical structure of a higher educational institution (HEI) should support the holistic development of a learner, and NEP2020 has focused our attention on the need for restructuring the education system with the inclusion of value-based education along with moral and ethical aspects of learning in higher education. To actualize the vision of learner-centric education, he stressed on the formulation of higher education programmes based on the Learning Outcome based Curriculum Framework, multidisciplinary education approach, and flexible entry-exit options. He underlined that an appropriate course curriculum should also be accompanied by engaging pedagogy and formative assessment to provide an optimum learning environment for learners.
Prof. R.K. Wusirika, Dean Incharge of Academics, expressed gratitude to the keynote speaker and shared that this programme would strengthen the NEP2020 implementation process in the country by allowing participants (including young faculty in education disciplines) an opportunity to learn innovative pedagogy and assessment techniques for the creation of an optimum learning environment in their HEIs.
The FDP commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Shankar Lal Bika, Programme Convener and Dean, School of Education, where he introduced the programme theme. He highlighted that this workshop would feature 50 sessions where eminent academicians would share their views on different sub-themes of the programme. Towards the end of the inaugural session, Dr. Shamshir Singh Dhillon gave a formal vote of thanks.
