CU Punjab Organizes IEC Awareness Seminar to Strengthen Ethical Research Practices

The Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organized an IEC Awareness Seminar to sensitize researchers about the ethical approval process for studies involving human samples.

Bathinda, September 13, 2025: The Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organized an IEC Awareness Seminar to sensitize researchers about the ethical approval process for studies involving human samples.
The seminar commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Anjana Munshi, Director (R&D), who highlighted the importance of upholding ethical standards in research and how such initiatives strengthen the university’s research ecosystem.
In his detailed presentation, Dr. Sunil Kumar Singh, Member Secretary, IEC, elaborated on ethical considerations and regulatory requirements as per the NECRBHR-DHR guidelines. He explained the procedures for obtaining IEC approval, the necessary documentation, and the responsibilities of Principal Investigators (PIs) after receiving approval.
The event witnessed active participation from faculty members of disciplines such as Sociology, Psychology, and Mass Communication, along with more than 50 Ph.D. scholars from departments including Biochemistry, Physical Education, Sociology, Law, Psychology, Public International Relations, Library & Information Science, Economic Studies, English, Financial Administration, Performing Arts, Applied Agriculture, Punjabi, Mass Communication, Human Genetics and Molecular Medicine, and Zoology.
An interactive session enabled participants to raise queries and seek clarifications, which were addressed by Dr. Ravindresh Chhabra, Alternate Member Secretary, IEC. He also extended a vote of thanks, appreciating the enthusiasm and involvement of all participants.
The seminar reaffirmed the university’s strong commitment to promoting ethical and responsible research practices in line with national guidelines.
