CU Punjab Organises Three-Day Workshop on Emerging Trends in Library and Information Science

The Department of Library and Information Sciences, School of Information and Communication Studies, Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), successfully organised a three-day workshop on “Contemporary Trends and Transformations in Library and Information Science” from March 18 to 20, 2026. The workshop brought together academicians, experts, researchers, and students to deliberate on the evolving landscape of library and information science in the context of digital transformation and artificial intelligence.

Bathinda, March 23, 2026: The Department of Library and Information Sciences, School of Information and Communication Studies, Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), successfully organised a three-day workshop on “Contemporary Trends and Transformations in Library and Information Science” from March 18 to 20, 2026. The workshop brought together academicians, experts, researchers, and students to deliberate on the evolving landscape of library and information science in the context of digital transformation and artificial intelligence.

The inaugural session, held on March 18, commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Bhaw Nath Pandey, Head and Dean (SICS). Dr. Rishabh Shrivastava, Convenor of the workshop, outlined the objectives and structure of the programme. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. M. P. Satija, Former UGC-Emeritus Fellow and Honorary Professor at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of CU Punjab, presided over the session, while Prof. Kiran Hazarika, Pro Vice-Chancellor, shared his remarks. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rubal Kanozia.

Over the three days, the workshop featured a series of expert sessions focusing on contemporary themes such as applications of artificial intelligence in libraries, AI-driven literature reviews, systematic reviews and evidence synthesis, academic social media and research visibility, sentiment analysis using social media data, automated classification and subject indexing, and efficient reference management using Zotero.

The workshop witnessed the participation of eminent resource persons including Prof. Durga S. Rath, Prof. Shiva Kannujia, Prof. Vinod Kumar Mishra, Prof. Pijushkanti Panigrahi, Prof. Manoj Kumar Sinha, Prof. Neeraj Kumar Singh, Prof. Anil Kumar Siwach, Prof. Manoj Kumar Verma, Prof. Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay, and Dr. Vinit Kumar. On the concluding day, a special session was delivered by Prof. Archana Shukla from IGNOU.

The valedictory session was held on March 20. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. (Retd.) H. N. Prasad, Former Vice-Chancellor of Nalanda Open University, Bihar. The workshop was organised under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, with Dr. Rishabh Shrivastava as Convenor and Shri Somesh Rai as Co-Convenor.

The workshop concluded on a successful note, providing participants with valuable academic insights and practical understanding of the emerging professional and technological transformations shaping the future of library and information science.
