CU Punjab Celebrates World Photography Day with Inter-Departmental On-the-Spot Mobile Photography Competition
The Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies, Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, celebrated World Photography Day by organizing a Students’ Photography Exhibition along with an Inter-Departmental On-Spot Mobile Photography Competition on Wednesday at the Academic Block, CU Punjab Campus.
Bathinda, August 21, 2026: The Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies, Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, celebrated World Photography Day by organizing a Students’ Photography Exhibition along with an Inter-Departmental On-Spot Mobile Photography Competition on Wednesday at the Academic Block, CU Punjab Campus.
The photography exhibition brought together creative works by students of the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies as well as students from other departments who opted for Photography courses at the University. The exhibition presented photographs capturing different subjects, moments, perspectives, and forms of visual expression. From everyday scenes on campus to people, nature, and details that often go unnoticed, the photographs reflected the students’ individual ways of looking at their surroundings.
Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Acting Vice-Chancellor, graced the exhibition as the Chief Guest. The exhibition was also visited by Dr. Vijay Sharma, Registrar; Dr. Rajkumar Sharma, Finance Officer; and Prof. Bhaw Nath Pandey, Dean, Library and Information Science. The dignitaries interacted with the students, viewed their work, and appreciated the efforts of the department and students in showcasing their creativity.
Dr. Rubal Kanozia, Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies, welcomed the dignitaries. He encouraged the students, appreciated their work, and interacted with participants during the exhibition. Dr. Kinshuk Pathak, Dr. Chhavi Garg, Dr. Mahesh Meena, and Dr. Vishnu Menon were also present during the programme.
Both programmes were coordinated by Dr. Aleem Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies. He expressed his appreciation to the organizing team for their efforts in ensuring the smooth functioning of the programmes.
The On-the-Spot Mobile Photography Competition was organized on the theme “Creativity Inside the Campus.” Students from various departments participated enthusiastically and were encouraged to identify and capture something they personally considered creative within the university campus. The theme encouraged participants to view familiar surroundings from fresh and individual perspectives, transforming ordinary campus moments into photographs with meaning and visual appeal.
The exhibition showcased the many possibilities of photography, with students experimenting with different subjects, perspectives, compositions, and visual styles. More than simply displaying photographs, the event gave students a platform to share their way of seeing the world and demonstrated how photography can be used for creativity, communication, documentation, and storytelling.
The competition carried cash prizes of ₹1,500 for the first position, ₹1,000 for the second position, and ₹500 for the third position. The event provided a meaningful platform for students across departments to come together, appreciate photography, and celebrate creativity through the simple but powerful act of seeing and capturing moments around them.
