Ludhiana: School of Engineering and Technology, CT University organised a webinar on Impact of cybercrime during COVID-19 in which guest Rakshit Tandon, Director- HackDev Technology Pvt Ltd & Cofounder- HACKERSHALA addressed the participants.

Speaking at length, guest Rakshit Tandon said, “Common cybercrime techniques, such as phishing, have seen a spike during the times of pandemic. Countries all across the globe are reporting an increase in cybercrime during the pandemic and even reported several kinds of scams and frauds that came in the form of ads, emails, fake websites, but also through phone calls and messages. Legitimate crowd-funding campaigns to collect money in support of health workers and institutions, were deviated to alternative criminal pockets through fake websites.”

Further, stating tips for young users he said, “It’s strongly recommended to be very vigilant about phishing emails and websites, try to use only trusted Wi-Fi networks and also make sure of adopting a password manager to help to avoid using the same password for multiple websites. Moreover, its important to use double channels of communication with counterparts before transferring sensitive data or downloading a file from an email that may contain malware.”

Thanking the guest and giving the students more information, Dr Harsh Sadawarti, Vice Chancellor, said, “We have seen many kinds of threats spiked because of the pandemic, right from attending online classes till getting spots for vaccination. It is strongly advised for youngsters to stay safe and also attend to their family members, neighbours and give them cyber advice as now the nation is all in the hands of young cyber experts.”
