Jalandhar, September 13, 2019: CT Group of Institutions, Maqsudan campus in association with Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar under the mission of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan organised a cleanliness drive ‘Shramdaan- an anti-plastic awareness drive’ in Sodal area post Sodal fair.
Every year thousands of people assemble at this place for religious and fun activities that later increases the garbage at the place. Understanding the needs of keeping the city neat and clean, the students held a drive in Sodal area.
The event was spearheaded by Aashika Jain, Joint Commissioner, MCJ along with other officials namely Joint Commissioner Harcharan Singh, Health Officer Dr. Shrikrishan, Additional Commissioner Babita Kaler etc.
The drive saw the participation of around 100 passionate students who were carrying their cleaning kits and dressed up in their Housekeeping uniforms. The students were provided with masks, gloves and a broom stick to clear up the trash.
Telling about the drive, Rohit Sharma, Principal CT Institute of Hotel Management, Maqsudan said, “The aim of this cleaning drive was to inculcate the importance of cleanliness in the minds of today’s youth. Organizing this drive at the Sodal temple helps in spreading the awareness about cleanliness and hygiene amongst maximum number of people as we can find individuals from varied societies and backgrounds at the same place.”
Aashika Jain, Joint Commissioner said, “This drive remains the need of hour and the students tried to cover up and clean every inch of the Sodal temple area, roads, water dispensers and also garbage at surrounding area of sodal. It has been reported that over 400 kg of waste including plastic bags, plastic fragments, glass bottles and other miscellaneous items were collected from the Sodal area.”
Manbir Singh, Managing Director, CT Group appreciated the efforts of Municipal Corporation and efforts of the department and said that similar drives will be continued in future as well.
