Chandigarh, August 29, 2026: Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa warned Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann that any kind of repressive action against employees who are protesting for their legitimate demands would amount to an attack on their democratic rights. He said that if the government tries to intimidate, threaten or take action against employees, the Congress will stand firmly with them and fight alongside them from the streets to the Assembly.
Randhawa said that protesting is a constitutional and democratic right of employees. The government's responsibility is to resolve their problems, not to threaten employees and suppress their voices. He said that the government may also have to face political consequences for such decisions taken out of arrogance.
He said that the Congress's struggle is not against any individual, but is aimed at bringing Punjab out of the crisis of debt, drugs, unemployment and administrative failures, and that this fight will continue with full force. He said that the Punjab government has failed on every front. The government has now also forced its employees to take to the streets. The employees are now prepared for a decisive battle.
