Dharamshala, July 14, 2026: The Kangra District Congress Committee on Tuesday staged a protest in Dharamshala over the alleged misappropriation of donations collected for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, demanding a transparent and impartial investigation into the matter.
Carrying placards and raising slogans against the Central Government, a large number of Congress workers assembled at Post Office Chowk before marching to the Hanuman Mandir at Kachhari Adda.
The protest was led by Kangra District Congress Committee President and Rajya Sabha MP Anurag Sharma, who alleged that the Centre had failed to ensure transparency in the management of donations collected in the name of Lord Ram.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma said the alleged irregularities had shaken the faith of millions of devotees in India and abroad. He demanded complete transparency in the utilisation of funds collected for the Ram Mandir and called for an independent, high-level inquiry to ascertain the facts and fix responsibility.
After the march, the protesters gathered at the Hanuman Mandir, where they collectively recited the Hanuman Chalisa as part of the demonstration. Congress women workers also organised a bhajan-kirtan (devotional singing) programme after offering prayers at the temple.
Congress leaders asserted that the issue was not political but related to the sentiments and faith of devotees. They warned that if their demand for a fair probe was not met, the party would intensify its agitation through democratic means.
Among those present at the protest were Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma; MLAs Ashish Butail, Sanjay Rattan, Kewal Singh Pathania, Kishori Lal, and Malendra Rajan; former MP Viplove Thakur; chairpersons andvice-chairpersons of various state boards and corporations from Kangra district; and a large number of Congress workers.
