Congress MLAs Slam Haryana Government over Sports Policy, HKRN

Rohtak/Chandigarh, August 5, 2026: Haryana Congress leaders on Wednesday criticised the BJP-led Haryana government over its sports policy, the functioning of the Haryana Kaushal Rojgar Nigam (HKRN), and youth employment, while demanding that Haryana be made a co-host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

Addressing a press conference here, Kurukshetra MLA Ashok Arora, Congress Legislature Party Deputy Leader Aftab Ahmed, Rohtak MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra, and MLAs Balwan Daulatpuria and Naresh Selwal alleged that the state government had failed to safeguard the interests of sportspersons and unemployed youth.

Congratulating Haryana athletes for their performance at the Commonwealth Games, Arora credited the previous Congress government led by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for laying a strong foundation for sports in the state. He claimed that Haryana contributes nearly 35 percent of India's medals in major sporting events and said the state's earlier sports policy played a key role in this success.

He also demanded that Haryana be made a co-host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, stating that such a move would further benefit the state's sportspersons. Arora announced that the Congress would stage a protest outside the Haryana Kaushal Rojgar Nigam on August 19.

Rohtak MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra alleged that HKRN was functioning against the principles of merit and equal opportunity. Questioning the corporation's functioning, he said a government agency should not operate on a commission-based model and termed the arrangement contrary to law.

Batra further alleged that the corporation had promoted contractual employment at the cost of regular recruitment, forcing educated youth into temporary jobs despite qualifying examinations such as the Common Eligibility Test (CET) and the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET).

Congress Legislature Party Deputy Leader Aftab Ahmed questioned the decision to award the hosting of the 2030 Commonwealth Games to Gujarat despite Haryana's outstanding contribution to India's medal tally. He said that although Haryana accounts for only around two percent of the country's population, it remains one of the largest contributors of medals in international sporting events.
