Congress aims to form government in Punjab in 2027 and at the Centre in 2029: Pargat Singh
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Pargat Singh, while addressing the historic ‘Insaf Rally’ in Sangrur, said that the Congress aims to form the government in Punjab in 2027 and to see Rahul Gandhi become the Prime Minister of the country in 2029.
Sangrur, November 4, 2026: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Pargat Singh, while addressing the historic ‘Insaf Rally’ in Sangrur, said that the Congress aims to form the government in Punjab in 2027 and to see Rahul Gandhi become the Prime Minister of the country in 2029. He said that the people of Punjab had voted the Aam Aadmi Party to power five years ago with the hope of change, but today the state was grappling with drugs, gangsterism, unemployment and a deteriorating law-and-order situation. He said the time had come to put Punjab back on the path of development, peace and prosperity.
Speaking about the problems faced by farmers, he said that nearly 25 per cent of the paddy crop was still lying in mandis, while complaints were emerging that procurement agencies had stopped purchasing the crop. Farmers were struggling to sell their produce, but the government had failed to resolve their problems. He said that attempts were being made to run Punjab’s politics from Delhi under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. Instead of understanding Punjab’s sentiments and the identity of Punjabis, the state’s leadership was working at the direction of leaders in Delhi. He asserted that Punjabis were a community that did not live in fear but stood firm and fought for its rights.
Targeting the Bhagwant Mann government, Pargat Singh said that the government would have to answer for the problems it had created through its own actions. He demanded accountability on serious questions concerning the drug trade and the state’s public healthcare system. He said the Health Minister was responsible for these matters.
Attacking the BJP government at the Centre, he said that Punjab was being subjected to discriminatory treatment. Referring to the controversy over the alleged failure to provide an appropriate place for the last rites of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, as well as an issue involving a former Air Chief Marshal, he said these incidents raised serious questions about the Centre’s mindset and its attitude towards Punjab. Raising the issue of media freedom, he said that pressure on the media and attempts to silence the voice of the people were matters of concern for democracy. He appealed to journalists to discharge their responsibility fearlessly as the fourth pillar of democracy.
Concluding his address, Pargat Singh, while addressing Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, said that the people of Punjab wanted nothing more than respect, affection and equal treatment. He said the time had come for the people of Punjab to seek accountability for the past five years and put the state back on the path of development, peace and prosperity. He added that the rally had further strengthened the resolve to form a Congress government in Punjab in 2027 and to make Shri Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister of India in 2029.
During his address, he also warned DGP Gaurav Yadav, saying that if the police looked at Congress workers with hostile intent, they would not allow such targeting to go unchecked.
