Condolence meeting held at Lyallpur Khalsa College
The Punjabi literary world recently suffered an irreparable loss with the passing of Dr. Ranjit Singh Bajwa, former Professor and Head of the Department of Punjabi at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
Jalandhar, March 28, 2026: The Punjabi literary world recently suffered an irreparable loss with the passing of Dr. Ranjit Singh Bajwa, former Professor and Head of the Department of Punjabi at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu offered floral tributes to the departed soul and described him as not only a world-class scholar but also a friendly and beloved teacher. He highlighted that during his teaching career, Dr. Bajwa guided students to undertake high-level research projects such as M.Phil and Ph.D. in the field of folklore and culture, and also rendered his services at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar.
The grief deepened further with the sad news of the demise of Manga Bassi Ji, a progressive poet of the Punjabi literary world and an alumnus of the college. He was known for his unique identity and personality in literary circles. In this sorrowful moment, a condolence meeting was organised to pay homage to both literary figures.
Head of the Department of Punjabi, Prof. Harjinder Singh Sekhon, said that the departure of two great writers is a major loss for Punjabi literature and a particularly tragic loss for Lyallpur Khalsa College. Faculty members and students from various departments, including the Heads of the Departments of Mathematics and History, joined the Punjabi Department in observing a two-minute silence and offering floral tributes in their memory.
