Computational Mathematics Laboratory Established in Doaba College

Jalandhar: P.G. Department of Mathematics of Doaba College organized  an online Inauguration Ceremony of Computational Mathematics Laboratory. Dr. Garima Gupta, Scientist ‘F’ and Programme officer, DBT Star College Scheme, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Chander Mohan-President Arya Shiksha Mandal and Doaba College Managing Committee presided over the function. The dignitaries were accorded a hearty welcome by Principal Dr Pardeep Bhandari, Dr. Rajiv Khosla-Overall Course Coordinator, Prof. Gulshan Sharma-Scheme Coordinator, Prof Arvind Nanda-Head , faculty and 100 participants.

Principal, Dr. Pardeep Bhandari discussed the use of innovative techniques, technology and mathematical software to make mathematics more interesting through this unique Computational Mathematics Laboratory. It would help students of mathematics to understand difficult concepts of mathematics in an easy and interesting way through MATLAB software and visualization techniques.

Dr. Garima Gupta inaugurated the DBT sponsored Computational Mathematics Laboratory. She applauded the efforts of college and  emphasized to involve rural area students  in upgradation of  their science aptitude. She appreciated the bench mark set by Doaba College in strengthening of science education in doaba region. 

Chander Mohan said  that this inventive initiative will prove  an asset to the student centric learning .It would be a right and timely step in the direction of disseminating practical mathematical knowledge to students in simplified way. 

Dr. Rajiv Khosla mentioned that DBT Star College Scheme has been implemented in Doaba College in 2012 and the college has been conferred with DBT star college status in 2018 .College has  received a financial assistance of Rs. 2 crores 36 Lacs  for strengthening science education and inculcating scientific temper amongst students . In 2020, the P.G. Department of Mathematics has been included in DBT star college scheme and sanctioned a financial support of  Rs. 25 Lacs  for three years. 

Prof. Gulshan Sharma, talked about purpose of Computational Mathematics Laboratory and application of MATLAB software in academics as well as research community.
