Complete ban on starting new development works and fresh enrolment of beneficiaries under social schemes: DC to officials

Nawanshahr, January 10, 2022: District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal on Monday directed the development authorities falling SBS Nagar district to not to commence any kind of new work in their areas as it is a clear violation of Model Code of Conduct.
Presiding over a meeting with all Executive Engineers of various departments, Executive Officers of Municipal Councils, Deputy Commissioner accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioners Jasbir Singh, Amit Sareen said that with the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct in the Punjab on January 8 evening, there is completely prohibition on starting new development works in the district. He said that only ongoing construction/development works would be allowed, which were started before imposition of Model Code of Conduct.
However, he said that repair of essential nature works including repairing water pipeline and other can be permitted with due authorization of District Electoral Officer..
Further, new enrolment under various pension scheme, Ashirward program, smart ration card, Ayushman card, labour card and others would be completely banned, he added.
Giving a warning to the officers/officials, District Election Officer said that none of the government employee would involve with themselves in political activities otherwise strict action would be initiated. He said that if anyone would be found canvassing or participating in the meetings of any political party/candidate, will face serious consequences.
Sarangal said that district administration has already fully geared up to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in the district and added that the model code of conduct elections would be enforced in true spirit and manner.
