Company Secretaries are the Guardians of Good Governance, Transparency, and Ethics: HIRD Director Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan

Panipat, 18 January 2026: The role of a Company Secretary is not limited to merely complying with legal provisions, but they are also guardians of corporate good governance, transparency, and ethical values. These sentiments were expressed by Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD). He was addressing the participants as the chief guest at a program organized by the Panipat Chapter of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan described Company Secretaries as the backbone of any company, stating that they act as a bridge between the company's board of directors, management, shareholders, and the government. He said that in today's competitive and globalized era, when maintaining trust in the corporate world is the biggest challenge, the role of Company Secretaries becomes even more crucial.

The chief guest, Dr. Chauhan, expressed his gratitude to the Government of India and especially to Union Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman for the decision to open the Regional Office of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in Chandigarh from February 16th, and urged the new generation of Company Secretaries to utilize this opportunity for their own benefit and for the benefit of the state.

Referring to Indian tradition, Dr. Chauhan said that the message of "Speak the truth, follow righteousness" is equally relevant in today's corporate sector.
