Come out and exercise right to franchise for stronger democracy, DEO exhorts youth

Ludhiana, April 9, 2024: District Election Officer Sakshi Sawhney on Tuesday urged the youth to actively participate in on-going Lok Sabha election process and cast their votes on the voting day (June 1).

Addressing the youth during a special awareness program organized at Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women under SVEEP campaign, Sawhney emphasized that India has a large population of younger people and they must shoulder the responsibility of strengthening the country by participating in the voting process. She exhorted them to not only cast their votes but also motivate others to do the same, in order to strengthen the democratic process in the country. She detailed about the importance of each vote.

Sawhney also informed the youth that they can still apply for registration if they haven't already registered to vote. She shared that the Election Commission of India had launched the National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) and Voter Helpline App to facilitate the registration process for new voters. She encouraged them to click the link www.nvsp.in to get registered as new voters. Similarly, she advised them to download the Voter Helpline App from the Google Play store on their android phone to enroll themselves as voters. The aim is to ensure the maximum participation of the youth during the Lok Sabha-2024 elections and achieve a target of more than 70% voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections (Iss Baar, 70 Paar).

GLADA Additional Chief Administrator Ojsavi Alankar and Assistant Commissioner (UT) Kritika Goyal also spoke about the right to vote and encouraged the youth to participate in massive numbers during Lok Sabha Elections.
