Colors Tamil rolls out devotional reality show- Bhajan Samraat this New Year

Chennai: Colors Tamil, the youngest GEC in the state, is all set to unveil a first-of-its-kind devotional reality show Bhajan Samraat. The show aims to provide a unique platform for Bhajan singers from different parts of Tamil Nadu. Apart from bringing soothing songs and divine chants to viewers, it will also showcase distinct genres of Bhajans to enrich and educate devotees. The show will premiere on January 10, 2021, and will be aired every day of the week, at 8 AM on Colors Tamil to light up your day.

In keeping with the COVID19 safety procedures, the state-wide auditions for Bhajan Samraat were conducted virtually and 24 teams have been selected. The teams will feature contestants from different walks of life, each boasting of an inspiring story of their own. Hosted by the very cheerful and lively VJ Priyadharshini, over the span of nine weeks the audience will see contestants showcasing various forms of bhajans. Two eminent personalities from The Carnatic music industry, Dr. R Ganesh and Mahathi will grace the show as judges. In addition to the renowned judges, there will also be multiple walk-in celebrity guests throughout the week.

Commenting on the show, Anup Chandrasekharan, Business Head, Colors Tamil, said, "It brings us immense joy and delight to reel out a unique devotional reality show Bhajan Samraat. Standing true to its philosophy, Colors Tamil continues to produce shows that enrich the cultural values of Tamil Nadu. This will be a great start to the new year, instilling a sense of spirituality among audiences."

Dr R Ganesh added, "Being both a Carnatic musician as well as a Bhajan singer, I believe that Carnatic music emanated from Bhajans and light music from Carnatic music. Saint Tyagaraja, who is a great Carnatic music exponent, is a classic example for the evolution of Bhajan. It gives me great joy to be a part of Bhajan Samraat, a wonderful platform that will redefine the devotional genre. As a judge, I look forward to witnessing some incredible talents in the state."

Speaking about her association with the show, Mahathi said, "It's an absolute delight to be part of Colors Tamil and bring to our audiences a unique devotional reality show - Bhajan Samraat. It will be a great opportunity to discover some of the finest singing talents of Tamil Nadu. I am thrilled and excited to go on a spiritually driven journey with the viewers.”
