Rohtak, May 7, 2026: On the fifth day of 'Abhivyanjana'—an art exhibition organized by the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Rohtak—Union Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, visited the university campus to view the exhibition. He was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Bhatia and former Minister Manish Grover, who attended as distinguished guests.
Chief Guest Manohar Lal honored talented students from the Faculty of Visual Arts and also released the university's coffee table book at the Awards distribution ceremony. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya and Registrar Dr. Gunjan Malik Manocha gave a warm welcome to the Union Minister. State Information Commissioner Amarjit Singh also attended the ceremony.
The Union Minister Mnaohar Lal formally inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Students from the Faculty of Visual Arts welcomed the Union Minister by presenting him with artworks created by their own hands. Manohar Lal closely observed the various artworks displayed at the exhibition and engaged with the students to learn about their work in detail. He also personally participated creatively by adding colors to a canvas, thereby expressing his appreciation for the students' talent. He also posed for photographs at the 'SUPVA Ki Sawari' selfie point, which had been created by the students. Additionally, he signed the visitor's book, leaving a personal message for the SUPVA family.
Subsequently, he participated in the student felicitation ceremony. The program commenced with the rendition of the national song, Vande Mataram, followed by the university's anthem. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya presented the Chief Guest with a memento and a captivating portrait of himself, which had been created by the students. Students from the Faculty of Television and Film Studies (FTV) delivered an enchanting performance titled 'Raas Rang,' which featured a medley of songs commonly used in theatrical arts.
During the ceremony, 19 students from the Faculty of Visual Arts were honored with the 'Best Art Work Award,' while 30 students received medals of appreciation and certificates. Additionally, all staff members of the department were honored with certificates. The Union Minister formally unveiled the university's coffee table book, which chronicles the major events organized during the current academic session as well as the university's participation in them.
Present on the occasion were Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rajpurohit, ADC Narendra Kumar, Gajendra Phogat (OSD to CM), Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. Ajay Kaushik, and Vinay Kumar (Coordinator of the Faculty of Visual Arts), among other staff members.
In his address, Union Minister Manohar Lal said that he had long harbored a desire to visit this university and felt immense joy upon making his first visit here. He remarked that the exhibition offered a compelling glimpse into the extent to which an artist can articulate their emotions and artistic vision. The exhibition clearly showcased voices raised against social evils, as well as glimpses of folk traditions, heritage, and culture. Art and culture serve as the most effective mediums for connecting people. Citing the Prime Minister's 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat' campaign, he emphasized the critical importance of fostering cultural exchange among the various states. Haryana was paired with Telangana under this initiative, thereby providing people with the opportunity to understand one another's languages, cultures, and traditions. He further observed that learning a new language is, in itself, an art form that serves to strengthen cultural understanding.
The Union Minister asserted that art is not merely a means of entertainment, but also a powerful instrument for nation-building and social upliftment. Through films, plays, and other artistic performances, it is possible to address and eradicate social ills while guiding the younger generation in the right direction. He proposed working on a 'One District, One Art' theme to ensure that the traditional and folk art forms unique to each district receive due recognition. Furthermore, he laid special emphasis on the preservation and development of folk art forms such as Dhamal, Saang, Jangam Party, Nagada Party, Gatka, and Bhangra.
Union Minister Manohar Lal said that this exhibition by SUPVA should not remain confined solely to the university campus; rather, it should be taken to other locations as well to gain recognition across the country. The university's alumni should also be invited to the campus to participate in interactive sessions with current students, enabling them to share their experiences.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Bhatia remarked that providing such a positive and constructive environment to students is truly a remarkable endeavor. He noted that visiting the campus brought back memories of his own days as a student. He himself has been actively involved in the arts and theater, having portrayed characters such as Ram, Lakshman, and Sita in Ramlila productions. He asserted that music and art serve to connect an individual with the Divine. Furthermore, he observed that art plays a vital role in stress management within one's life. While commending the event, he also announced a contribution of ₹11 lakh from his MP fund to the university for the procurement of artistic equipment.
