Chandigarh, March 10, 2026: Government Home Science College successfully organized its 59th Annual Athletic Meet on Tuesday. The one-day sporting extravaganza was marked by enthusiasm, vibrant energy and a strong spirit of sportsmanship among students.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the College and Chief Guest, who unfurled the college flag and administered the oath-taking ceremony, formally declaring the meet open.
The programme commenced with a synchronized march past by the students, led by Senior Under Officer and Parade Commander Manya (B.Sc. Dietetics, 3rd Year) and Sports Captain Shivani (M.Sc. Human Development, 1st Year). The ceremonial Presidency Torch was then lit by the college’s outstanding athletes, symbolizing perseverance, dedication and excellence in sports.
The event was further graced by Pranshi Arora, an international sportsperson and accomplished young fencer from Chandigarh, who attended as the Guest of Honour. She has represented India at several prestigious international competitions, including the Commonwealth Cadet & Junior Fencing Championships in New Zealand and the World Cadet & Junior Fencing Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The day witnessed enthusiastic participation in a variety of track and field events, including 100m, 200m and 400m relay races, long jump, shot put, discus throw and javelin throw. Fun events such as the three-legged race and tug of war added excitement and enjoyment to the occasion. The participation and enthusiasm of the students reflected the college’s commitment to promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and a healthy competitive spirit.
A special attraction of the event was the delightful performance by the tiny tots of Chaitanya Laboratory Nursery School, which captivated the audience. The cultural segment also featured impressive student performances, including a graceful Manipuri dance, yoga demonstrations and a vibrant Bhangra performance, adding colour and cultural richness to the celebrations.
At the conclusion of the meet, Kashish was honoured with the Best Athlete Award for her outstanding performance across multiple events, while the Best Marching Contingent Award was bagged by B.Sc. Home Science, 3rd Year.
In her concluding remarks, Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Sports Committee, teaching staff and non-teaching staff for their seamless coordination in organizing the successful event. She also encouraged students to actively pursue sports alongside academics for their overall development.
The meet concluded with the flag retreat ceremony, followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks marking the end of a memorable and inspiring day.
