Army Public School Beas organized an enlightening lecture on "Careers in the Indian Army – A Life Less Ordinary” by Col Vinod Joshi, CO 2 Pb, NCC Battalion, on 19 August 2025. The session aimed to inspire young students to consider a career in the armed forces and to familiarize them with the avenues of commission and preparation strategies for the Services Selection Board (SSB).

Jalandhar, August 19, 2025: Army Public School Beas organized an enlightening lecture on "Careers in the Indian Army – A Life Less Ordinary” by Col Vinod Joshi, CO 2 Pb, NCC Battalion, on 19 August 2025. The session aimed to inspire young students to consider a career in the armed forces and to familiarize them with the avenues of commission and preparation strategies for the Services Selection Board (SSB).
Col Vinod highlighted the pride, honour, and sense of duty associated with serving the nation. He explained the different avenues of commission such as the National Defence Academy (NDA), Combined Defence Services (CDS), Technical Entry Schemes, and Short Service Commission (SSC), giving a clear roadmap for both boys and girls aspiring to wear the uniform.
The Colonel also gave students a glimpse into the life in the Army—its unique culture of camaraderie, discipline, and adventure. He spoke about the structure of the Army, the variety of roles it comprises, and the immense opportunities it offers in terms of professional growth and personal development. He further elaborated on the emoluments, benefits, and facilities extended to officers, including job security, medical care, quality education for children, and a dignified lifestyle, which make the armed forces an attractive and fulfilling career choice.
A major focus of the talk was on SSB preparation, where Col Vinod emphasized qualities like leadership, discipline, teamwork, and effective communication. He shared valuable tips on how students can enhance their personality, develop confidence, and cultivate the Officer-Like Qualities (OLQs) that the SSB looks for.
The interactive session was well received, with students asking insightful questions about career prospects, training opportunities, and life in the armed forces. Col Vinod encouraged them to remain focused, physically fit, and mentally resilient while preparing for the challenges ahead.
The event left the young Beasians inspired and motivated to contribute to the nation’s service through the armed forces.
