Ludhiana, January 30, 2014: Department of Plastic Surgery and Anatomy under the aegis of North Zone Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (NZAPSI) jointly organised a mid-term CME & Hands-on Flap Dissection Course for the budding plastic surgeons.

This course was specifically designed to address the needs of the residents in plastic surgery wishing to learn flap dissection and the established plastic surgeons, who wish to enhance their skills in flap surgery.

According to Dr Sanjeev Uppal (Professor & Head of Plastic Surgery), the course allowed the participants to familiarize themselves with the full spectrum of skin flaps, including muscle, facial, bone, and perforator-based flaps. Flap surgery is a technique in plastic and reconstructive surgery, where any type of tissue is lifted from a donor site and moved to a recipient site with an intact blood supply. This is similar to but different from a graft, which does not have an intact blood supply and therefore relies on growth of new blood vessels.

The course was held using fresh cadavers, being preserved in the Department of Anatomy. Participants were taught by renowned Micro vascular Surgeon Dr Ashok K.Koul from Bangalore. Educational materials was also provided to the participants.

Dr Poonam Singh (Prof & Head of Anatomy) said that a thorough knowledge of anatomy and blood supply of skin is essential to the planning of various flaps in plastic surgery for reconstruction.

The CME was formally inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society- Sh Prem Kumar Gupta along with Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh China. In his message, Dr Chhina said that surgical training in flaps should include the hands-on cadaver dissection on regular basis in order to gain proficiency in flap dissection and also to acquire more knowledge with regard to the vascular basis of flap. The course is best suited for trainees in plastic surgery and the plastic surgeons who are interested in reconstructive surgery.

Keeping the benefit of trainees and post-graduate students in mind, NZAPSI has been organizing several such CMEs and workshops at regular intervals by esteemed International and National faculty, informed Course Co-ordinators Dr. Rajinder Mittal and Dr Ramneesh Garg.//ludhiana news online, ludhiana news in English, ludhiana news, ludhiana current news, ludhiana news live, Ludhiana breaking news, Ludhiana headlines, Ludhiana latest news, punjab news, india news, punjab news live, punjab news online, punjab news, punjab news headlines, punjab breaking news, india news, punjab news,
