CMC Ludhiana signs memorandum of agreement with The George Institute of Global Health India

Ludhiana, July 23, 2022: The George Institute for Global Health is one of the leading research organisations in the world. They have established offices in India, China and UK besides the Head office at Sydney, Australia. The George Institute India (GII) is in New Delhi and has been active in the country since 2002. 

CMC Ludhiana is 128 years old Institution serving the nation in delivering quality health care and promoting high quality innovative medical research in the country. CMCL and George Institute India renewed the 5 years memorandum of agreement today. Dr Vivekanand Jha, Executive Director of GII mentioned that the institute focuses on high quality research and the development of low-cost interventions which is of public health importance. He added that non-communicable diseases are a priority for the Institute and various projects are being carried out in the implementation of low-cost interventions in India and in other countries in chronic kidney disease, mental health, cardiovascular disease, stroke etc. 

Dr William Bhatti, Director CMCL stated that the vision and mission of our Institution is to serve the disadvantaged population in the region. He added that CMCL through its more than 140 affiliated hospitals have been delivering low-cost care in rural areas of the country by the graduates who are trained by CMC. He also stressed that CMCL has been involved in medical research to develop affordable treatments.

Dr Jeyaraj D Pandian, Principal CMCL mentioned that through the previous MOA with GII several collaborative research projects and clinical trials were conducted in the field of stroke, fractures, chronic kidney disease, and in COVID-19 infection.  We are going to focus on research capacity building of CMC faculty and students through the MOA. In addition, there will be exchange of faculty and students between both the Institutes. CMCL also will explore joint research grant applications with GII, he added.
