Dharamshala, July 7, 2026: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday virtually inaugurated the new office of the Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh State Backward Classes Commission in Dharamshala from the State Secretariat in Shimla. The Commission's office has recently been shifted from Shimla to Dharamshala.
Congratulating the people of Kangra district on the new facility, the Chief Minister said that a large population belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) resides in Kangra and the adjoining districts. Shifting the Commission's office to Dharamshala will spare people the need to travel to Shimla for official work, saving both time and money while ensuring quicker and more convenient access to the Commission's services.
During the inauguration, the Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner of Kangra to make the necessary arrangements for the early establishment of the Himachal Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) office in Dharamshala.
He said the state government has declared Kangra as the tourism capital of Himachal Pradesh and, in line with this vision, several government offices are being relocated to the district. He added that more government offices are proposed to be shifted to Kangra in the coming years.
The Chief Minister also stated that the government is making sustained efforts to secure Other Backward Classes (OBC) status for the Dodra-Kwar area of Shimla district and Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Bara Bhangal area of Kangra district.
Earlier, Chairman of the State Backward Classes Commission Prabhat Chaudhary welcomed the Chief Minister and thanked him for shifting the Commission's office to Dharamshala. He said the decision would significantly improve access to the Commission's services for the OBC community in Kangra and neighbouring districts.
Present with the Chief Minister in Shimla were Vinay Kumar, MLAs Suresh Kumar, Vinod Sultanpuri, Sudarshan Babloo, and former MLA Satpal Raizada. Joining virtually from Dharamshala were Commission members Rakesh Chaudhary, Kashmir Singh Bharti, Rajiv Rana, and Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa.
