Cleaning Budha Dariya is top priority of Punjab Government, says Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer

Ludhiana, July 12, 2022: Punjab Science Technology and Environment Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Tuesday took stock of progress of the ongoing Budha Dariya rejuvenation project besides directed the officials of Municipal Corporation, Sewage Board, PPCB and other departments to expedite the pace of all works executed to clean Budha Dariya. 
Presiding over a meeting held at Jamalpur Treatment Plant, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer termed the cleaning of Budha Dariya a foremost priority of the Punjab government and said that he would personally review the project regularly to ensure completion of works well before timeline. He said that there would not be any compromise with prioritization of Budha Dariya rejuvenation project and instructed the officials to complete the work of 225-MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Jamalpur by December this year. 
The Minister said that under Budha Dariya rejuvenation project, work was going on in full swing on two new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for treating domestic waters of total capacity 285 MLD (Jamalpur 225 MLD and Balloke 60 MLD), rehabilitation of existing STPs, two Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) for treatment of wastewater from two dairy complex in Tajpur and Haibowal, six intermediate pumping stations, laying of 10-km pipeline and others.  
Hayer assured the people that AAP government was committed to protecting the environment and he would do everything required for clean and safe Punjab. 
Rajya Sabha MP and Committee Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal also emphasized on the timely completion of ongoing works under rejuvenation project to ensure cleaning of Budha Dariya. He also asked the officials to expeditiously remove all encroachments around Budha Dariya. 
Meanwhile, MLA Daljeet Singh Grewal said that administration must explore the feasibility of setting up STP for treating the domestic waste of nearby areas. 
Later, the Minister along with other officials visited 50 MLD common effluent treatment plant (CETP) on Tajpur Road.
Prominent among present on the occasion included CEO Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) Isha Kalia, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Dr Shena Aggarwal and others.
