Classrooms Empty, Politics Full: Randhawa Slams AAP’s ‘Drug Census’

Chandigarh, May 22, 2026: Senior Congress leader and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, alleging that crores of rupees are being wasted in the name of a “Drug Census,” which, according to him, has nothing to do with any genuine anti-drug campaign.
He said the entire exercise is nothing more than a political survey aimed at assessing the declining public support of the Aam Aadmi Party and preparing strategies to retain power. He further alleged that Punjab’s teachers are being turned into part of a political survey. By removing teachers from schools and classrooms and deploying them in this administrative exercise, the education system is being adversely affected.
Randhawa accused the government of misusing administrative resources and spending taxpayers’ money for political interests. He said that teachers are meant to shape the future of Punjab’s children, but instead they are being forced onto the streets to collect data for a government that has completely lost the trust of the people. He termed this an insult to both the education system and the teaching community.
Randhawa also raised serious questions about the credibility of the data that would emerge from this so-called Drug Census. He alleged that just as the government has previously attempted to polish its image through false claims and publicity-driven feedback surveys, the data from this campaign could also be manipulated for political gain.
He said the government is running away from ground realities and trying to hide its failures behind fabricated statistics. The people of Punjab, he added, must now understand the difference between reality and PR-driven politics.
Appealing to the people of Punjab to remain vigilant, MP Randhawa said the state is facing serious social and administrative challenges, but the government is busy with publicity-oriented politics instead of providing real solutions.
