Ludhiana, July 25, 2025: Upkar Singh Ahuja, President of the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU), has described the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) as a transformative opportunity for Punjab’s industrial and economic growth.
In a statement here today, he added that this landmark agreement is poised to deliver significant benefits to the state by granting duty-free access to the UK market for key products such as textiles, auto components, tractor parts, and sports goods including soccer balls, cricket gear, and non-electronic toys, along with packaged foods and vegetables.
Ahuja emphasized that Punjab’s manufacturing sectors—renowned for their quality and innovation—will gain a competitive advantage through increased exports, lower tariffs, and enhanced market access. He added that the agreement also lays the foundation for technology exchange, skill development, and joint ventures, particularly boosting opportunities for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
“CETA will not only expand trade volumes but also contribute significantly to employment generation and the overall economic progress of Punjab,” said Ahuja. CICU has extended its full support to this forward-looking initiative and is committed to helping industries across the region fully leverage its potential.
