Chief Minister assures Ludhiana resident Bhima Singh that “Basera” Scheme to be implemented in true spirit

Ludhiana: Chief Minister Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh today assured Ludhiana resident Bhima Singh that the Basera Scheme, under which around 1 lakh slum dwellers of the state would be given proprietary rights, would be implemented in its true spirit. He also urged him to stay in touch if there is any problem. He expressed his gratitude that he was confident that the Basera scheme will be implemented at the earliest and the benefits will reach the poor.

    The Chief Minister Punjab was interacting with the residents through the 20th edition of #AskCaptain Facebook live session today.

    It is pertinent to mention that the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana has identified 13 Slum colonies under The Punjab Slum Dwellers (Proprietary Rights) Act 2020, which are situated on the government land.

    Terming this initiative as a milestone step towards inclusive urban development and planning of the state government, Capt Amarinder Singh assured that he had been nurturing this dream for the past 52 years of his political career. He said that the Local Government department would provide basic civic amenities including potable drinking water, street lighting and roads to the slum dwellers for a comfortable life.

    Mr Bhima Singh of Ludhiana had written to the Chief Minister stating, “Sir Basera scheme da bahut bahut dhanwaad. Garib di dua milegi.” Reacting to it, Capt Amarinder Singh said that Chief Minister’s Slum Development Programme ‘BASERA’ has been launched to confer proprietary rights to every slum household occupying state government land in a slum in any urban area.

    Even as he slammed the Akalis and AAP for spreading lies over the Farm Laws and dubbed the Centre’s refusal to repeal them as ‘inhuman’, Captain Amarinder Singh announced that jobs for one member of each of the families of the state’s farmers who had lost their lives in the agitation against the black laws. The sad part, said the Chief Minister, was that, “we are losing our farmers to the cold every day, with an estimated farmers 76 dying so far.” In addition to the Rs 5 lakh compensation being given to the families of the deceased farmers, Punjab government would also give a job to a family member, he added.
