Mohali/Chandigarh, October 29, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party received a major boost when Chaudhary Shyam Lal Gujjar, Mohali district president of the Shiromani Akali Dal's BC Wing, joined the BJP along with hundreds of associates, inspired by BJP state vice-president Ranjit Singh Gill. At an event held in Guda village in the Kharar constituency, Punjab BJP state president Kewal Singh Dhillon welcomed them warmly into the party and assured them they would be given full respect and honour.
Kewal Singh Dhillon said that Chaudhary Shyam Lal and his associates had taken an excellent decision for the good of Punjab. He said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the BJP is taking every section of society along with the mantra "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas" (Together with all, development for all, trust of all), and it is because of this trust that people from various communities are joining the BJP.
Dhillon said it was a matter of great joy that the Gujjar community was joining the BJP in large numbers. He said the Gujjar community is known for its hard work and contribution to society, and has played an important role in Punjab's progress. He added that the BJP has grown stronger with the joining of Shyam Lal and his associates.
The state president said that Punjab's condition is very worrying today. Drugs, gangsterism, extortion, murders, a deteriorating law-and-order situation, mounting debt and financial difficulties have pushed the state into crisis. He said that those who raise their voice against drugs face attempts to silence them, and those who expose the government's failures are subjected to high-handedness.
Dhillon said that shootings and murders are happening in Punjab every day. Citing the cases of Parminder Singh Jhota of Mansa and Daljit Jeetu, a youth from village Bhamme Kalan, he said that instead of receiving justice, the victims' families are facing further harassment.
Dhillon said the biggest issue today is saving Punjab's generations. If our sons and daughters themselves are not safe, other comforts and facilities have no meaning. Therefore, eradicating drugs should be the top priority.
Kewal Singh Dhillon said the BJP has taken a pledge to free the state from drugs through the "Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra" (Drug-Free Punjab Yatra), and that, together with the Central Government's campaigns, work is being done with full commitment to eliminate drugs by December 31, 2029.
He said Punjab needs a strong and honest government, and that, based on the BJP's track record of good governance and development, only the Bharatiya Janata Party can solve Punjab's problems. He called upon party workers to strengthen the organisation further and take the party's policies to every section of society.
Present on the occasion were BJP state vice-president Ranjit Singh Gill, district president Sanjeev Vashisht, Chaudhary Om Parkash, Chairman of the Haryana Government, and a large number of party leaders and workers.
