Old timers and even the younger generation must be remembering the golden songs such as “Sur na saje kya gaun main”, “Ay meri Zohara”, “Puchho na kaise maine rain bitayee”, “Laga chunari main daag”, “Ye raat bhigi bhigi, ye mast fijzayen”, “Jhanak jhanak tori baaje payaliya”, “Tu pyar ka saagar hai”, “Chunari sambhal gori udi chali jaye re” and “Na to karanwa ki talash hai na to humsafar ki talash hai” sung by golden voice of Manna Dey.
And there is sad news for music lovers that their favourite singer Manna Dey is no more now. Dey, 94, was suffering from illness for the last about 120 days and he breathed his last today (October 24, 2013) in a hospital at Bangalore. As per the available information, he died of cardiac arrest at 3.50 am. He has been in ICU for the last about a fortnight. A Chapter of Music penned with Golden Ink has been closed forever but songs sung by him, will always remain alive in the minds of true music lovers.
He had started his career as playback singer way back in the year 1953. He was honoured with Padma Bhushan, Padma Shree and Dadasaheb Phalke award. These awards are considered the nation’s highest award in the film industry. www.cityairnews.com
