A constitution awareness event dedicated to the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Baba Sahib Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, was organized here on Sunday.

Payal (Ludhiana), May 18, 2025: A constitution awareness event dedicated to the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Baba Sahib Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, was organized here on Sunday. 

Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes Jasvir Singh Garhi was the chief guest. Punjab GENCO Board Chairman Navjot Singh Jarg and others were also present. 

In his address, the Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi stated that since Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann assumed office, the Punjab government has been diligently working to realize Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s dreams. He recalled the selfless contributions of Baba Sahib, known as the father of the Indian Constitution. 

Describing the Indian Constitution as one of the best in the world, Chairman called upon the people to contribute towards making an ideal society by following the principles of equality and liberty as dreamt by Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr BR Ambedkar. He added that though Dr. Ambedkar hailed from a humble family but his exceptional contribution for the society has brought him into the league of global leaders. He noted that Indian Constitution was the result Dr. Ambedkar’s hard work, dedication and far sightedness added that Baba Saheb was not only the leader of weaker sections but he belonged to the entire humanity.


The Chairman also spoke about the unmatchable determination and struggle of Dr Ambedkar to bring the underprivileged and poor sections of the society into the mainstream, which would remain an example for every generation in the world. He thanked Dr. Ambedkar for his foresightedness and leadership, ensuring the constitution guarantees the rights of every citizen, especially the oppressed. He noted that the Punjab government led by CM Mann, is the first state in India to display portraits of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar and Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh in government offices as symbols of inspiration and ideals.


Garhi also affirmed a zero-tolerance policy against oppression and violence, rooted in the teachings of Guru Sahiban and Dr. Ambedkar through the constitution. He cited Articles 14, 15, 16, and 17, which eliminate discrimination based on caste, religion, race, place, or gender. He mentioned that upon taking charge of the Scheduled Castes Commission, he found 5,000 pending files, with over 1,200 more added in the last 58 days. 


Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Balwinder Singh Latala, Engineer Harminderpal Singh, Balwinder Singh Dudhal, Shanti Devi, Councillor Rachpal Singh Pala and others.
