Central University of Punjab Hosts Workshop on “Accelerating Ideas into Patents using AI”

The Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organized a workshop on “Accelerating Ideas into Patents using AI” on Friday. The event was jointly conducted by the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), the Intellectual Property Management and Commercialization Cell (IPMCC), and the Department of Computer Science and Technology.

Bathinda: The Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organized a workshop on “Accelerating Ideas into Patents using AI” on Friday. The event was jointly conducted by the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), the Intellectual Property Management and Commercialization Cell (IPMCC), and the Department of Computer Science and Technology.
The programme began with an opening address by Prof. R.K. Wusurika, Dean In-charge Academics. Prof. Anjana Munshi, Director of Research and Development, stressed the growing importance of AI in innovation and patent filing, while Prof. Amandeep Kaur highlighted its role in broadening the innovation landscape.
The keynote resource person, Prateek Kanaujia (Product Consultant at GTM & RevOps Specialist at XLSCOUT), delivered an insightful session where he discussed successful patents such as the can opener, paper pin, and sticky notes, and emphasized learning from missed opportunities like the card swiper. A key feature of the workshop was the hands-on training on the AI-powered XLSCOUT platform, where participants practiced novelty searches and explored tools for assessing technology development.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session. Prof. Monisha Dhiman, President of IIC, thanked the guest speaker and reaffirmed IIC’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation on campus. Around 50 participants from diverse departments, including Computer Science, Human Genetics, Education, Punjabi, Performing and Fine Arts, and Pharmaceutical and Natural Products, took part in the workshop, reflecting the interdisciplinary relevance of patents and intellectual property.
Dr. Anam Sharma welcomed the participants, while Dr. Preeti Khetarpal, Coordinator of IPMCC and Organizing Secretary, expressed gratitude to the university authorities and the resource person, delivering the formal vote of thanks.
The workshop was a resounding success, equipping participants with valuable knowledge and practical tools to transform innovative ideas into patents.
