Center for Sustainable Energy, IIT Roorkee organized the National Conclave on Sustainable Energy
The Center for Sustainable Energy at IIT Roorkee successfully organized the National Conclave on “Sustainable Energy in Sanatan Bharat: Roadmap for Viksit Bharat@2047”, highlighting how ancient Indian wisdom on environmental harmony and circularity can provide a timeless foundation for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7) and India’s long-term energy vision.

Roorkee, April 30, 2025: The Center for Sustainable Energy at IIT Roorkee successfully organized the National Conclave on “Sustainable Energy in Sanatan Bharat: Roadmap for Viksit Bharat@2047”, highlighting how ancient Indian wisdom on environmental harmony and circularity can provide a timeless foundation for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7) and India’s long-term energy vision.
Held on the IIT Roorkee campus, the conclave brought together over 150 participants, including policymakers, researchers, academicians, and thought leaders. Two panel discussions explored the relevance of traditional Indian sustainable practices and how these can be adapted into India’s contemporary roadmap for clean and inclusive energy development.
The Chief Guest, Ritu Khanduri, Hon’ble Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, stressed the importance of sensitizing students and local communities on climate responsibility and building the foundation for a sustainable Viksit Bharat. “The Center for Sustainable Energy is dedicated to achieving sustainable development in Viksit Bharat. I wish them all the success,” she remarked.
Prof. U.P. Singh, Officiating Director, IIT Roorkee, presided over the event and highlighted the institute’s commitment to national energy priorities., “At IIT Roorkee, we believe that sustainable development must emerge from the confluence of science, policy, and heritage. The Center for Sustainable Energy exemplifies this vision by developing low- and zero-carbon technologies while drawing inspiration from India’s timeless traditions. Our commitment is not only to innovation but also to shaping a future that is resilient, inclusive, and self-reliant.”
The conclave brought together distinguished thought leaders from academia, industry, and government, including Prof. Sapna Rakesh (G.L. Bajaj University), Munish Sabharwal (ILMS University), Mr. Aveenash Tripathi (UNISED), Dr. R.K. Malhotra (Hydrogen Association of India), Dr. Brijendra Negi (Graphic Era University), Dr. Tanu Jain (Ministry of Defence), S.K. Bose (Hydrocarbon Skill Sector Council), and Professors Anand Bulusu and Anil Gourishetty from IIT Roorkee. Their collective insights contributed to the formulation of a strategic roadmap that bridges Sanatan wisdom with modern clean energy solutions for a sustainable Viksit Bharat.
Prof. Soumitra Satapathi, Head, Center for Sustainable Energy and Convener of this conclave said, “Sanatan Bharat had an ancient tradition of protecting the environment and concept of building sustainability. This national conclave will provide a roadmap for developing Viksit Bharat by taking key teachings from Sanatan Bharat.”
