CDOE, Panjab University Holds 9th Convocation and 49th Prize Giving Ceremony for Distance Learners
The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised its 9th Convocation and 49th Prize Giving Function in its auditorium today for the session 2023–24. As many as 75 students were conferred degrees across disciplines including Arts, Commerce, Management, and Diploma courses, while 84 meritorious students were honoured for their academic excellence.
Chandigarh, March 18, 2026: The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised its 9th Convocation and 49th Prize Giving Function in its auditorium today for the session 2023–24. As many as 75 students were conferred degrees across disciplines including Arts, Commerce, Management, and Diploma courses, while 84 meritorious students were honoured for their academic excellence.
The function celebrated the achievements of distance learners—nearly half of the university’s student strength—who, though often engaged in solitary academic journeys, found collective recognition and shared presence on this significant occasion.
The Chief Guest, Prof R. K. Gupta, Pro-Chancellor, Maharaja Agrasen University, Baddi, (H.P.) in his convocation address, described distance education as a delicate balance between responsibility and sustained motivation. He underscored the transformative potential of the National Education Policy in enhancing educational quality, urged students to acquire AI-based skills responsibly, and noted that the newly installed CDOE studio would significantly strengthen teaching and learning processes.
The Guest of Honour, Prof Y. P. Verma, Registrar, Panjab University, highlighted adaptability and resilience as key to success in challenging times.
The Chief-Guest of the Prize Giving function, Prof. Yojna Rawat, Dean of University Instructions, stressed that learning must remain a lifelong pursuit, not merely driven by employment.
Earlier, Prof Harsh Gandhar, Director, CDOE, welcomed the dignitaries and presented a comprehensive annual report, highlighting key achievements, including three outstanding students—Mr. Keshav Jain, Ms. Tanvi Gupta, and Ms. Kirti—who successfully cleared the UPSC and PPSC examinations. Emphasising that education is a lifelong journey, she inspired students to view learning beyond immediate goals.
Prof Madhurima Verma, Dean, Faculty of Arts, graced the occasion. The event was convened by Dr Purva Mishra and Dr Kamla Sandhu, with co-convenors Dr Ravinder Kaur, Dr Anil Kumar, and Dr Sucha Singh. Prof Sheena Pal conducted the proceedings, while Prof Swaranjit Kaur delivered a formal vote of thanks.
