CBI registers case in connection with coal block allocation; conducts searches

Jalandhar, March 11, 2013:  The Central  Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against a private firm based at Ramgarh (Jharkhand); its Chairman; Managing Director and other Directors of said firm and unknown others in connection with the allegations related to getting coal blocks allocated on the basis of misrepresentations and false claims in the applications, presentations and connivance/lack of due diligence on part of unknown others.

Searches were conducted today at 11 places including Ghaziabad, Ramgarh Cantt., Hesla District, Hazari Bagh, Ranchi, New Delhi, Kolkata and Varanasi at the factory premises and offices of the company and residences of its Directors. Various documents and other evidences have been recovered during the searches.

A preliminary enquiry to examine the irregularities, if any, in the allocation of coal blocks during the period 2006-09 was registered on a reference from CVC, in June, 2012.

Earlier CBI had registered nine cases in this regard.

Further investigation is continuing.
