“Capacity building programme for Security Personnel” of Panjab University

Chandigarh, October 30, 2021: Five day Capacity building programme for Security Personnel of Panjab University, Chandigarh organized by Department of Defence and National Security and  Centre for Police Administration, concluded  today.
The departments conducted this programme in collaboration with UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, PU.
Dr Jaskaran Singh Waraich, Chairperson Department of Defence and National Security Studies in his welcome address highlighted the salient aspects of the five-day programme and also discussed the significance of the course for overall development of security personnel of the Panjab University. 
Prof. S. K. Tomar, Director Human Resource development Centre, Dean Research and Dean Student Welfare, in his talk emphasised the importance of capacity building and training programmes for staff where an individual not only learn but also develop a spirit of co-ordination, learn the importance of teamwork and faith in each other’s capabilities. He shared that Krishak, Rakshak and Shikshak are three pillars of the nation. So, there is need to update the Rakshak about the dynamic nuances of security profession and new emerging developments. 
Sh. Vikram Nayyar, Registrar Panjab University, who was chief guest during the event also interacted with security personnel and stressed that there is  always a room for improvement and learning and capacity building programmes are endeavoured in this direction to keep the mind open for learning. He expressed his hope that they will fulfil their duties more efficiently after the training. 
Professor Anil Monga, Chairperson Department of Police Administration, stressed on the need for these capacity building programmes as security staff has to deal with security issues and maintain discipline without any power to exercise. 
In this five-day programme various experts and eminent person also shared their experiences and impart training to security personnel.
In the inaugural session Shri Kuldeep Chahal, SSP Chandigarh Police was the Chief Guest on the occasion, who also shared his experiences in the opening session. Prof Deepti Gupta, Honorary Coordinator, Centre for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship interacted on “Techniques of Public Dealing”. She gave demonstration to the participants how they should deal with the students on campus and also people visiting university for official work. DSP Jaswinder Singh and his team of Chandigarh traffic Police impart training about traffic rules and road safety with the help of PowerPoint presentations. Classroom demos were also given by traffic police team such as regarding use of helmet, seat belt and traffic rules, and road crossing. DSP Jaswinder Singh gave special lecture regarding traffic rules and clear the doubts of participants.
In this five-day workshop expert trainer Captain Kashmir Singh (retd.), who has the vast experience of training the security personnel, covered various aspects of security starting from drill, discipline, physical security, firefighting, frisking and search, security of office and official documents and how to handle strike, dharnas, gate security and other various day to day activities.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh, former chairperson Centre for Police administration, delivered the vote of thanks.  Each participant was awarded certificates by the dignitaries of the event.
