Mcleod Ganj (Dharamshala/Himachal Pradesh): A 32 year-old Tibetan man named Thrinley Namgyal lit himself ablaze in Tawu county of Kardze region in Kham, Tibet at 12 noon (local time) today. His body was taken to Gangthel monastery, and he succumbed to his burns. He became the 130th individual to self-immolate inside Tibet to protest against Chinese rule.
Tibetans and supporters gathered at Mcleod Ganj main square to pay respects and offer prayers for Thrinley Namgyal and his family. The candlelight vigil was jointly organised by Regional Tibetan Youth Congress-Dharamshala, Regional Tibetan Women’s Association-Dharamshala and Students for a Free Tibet - India.
“The Chinese government has been adamantly holding an authoritarian military rule in Tibet and instead of listening to the people they brutally strike down on protesters; they are crude like this even to their own people in China,“ said Nyima Yangtso, Vice-President, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress.
Tenzin Tselha of Students for a Free Tibet-India said, ”The self-immolation by Thrinley Namgyal shows how Tibetans are unmistakably rejecting China’s policies in Tibet and  that they will no longer tolerate China’s extreme repression. We stand here in solidarity with Tibetans inside Tibet who continue to resist and risk their lives for the freedom of Tibet.”
